A new approach to property

Many years ago in the early 90’s, my first business venture as a bright eyed 24 year old was to launch Matilda Jane’s. A high end, Australian Designer fashion store. Tony and I bought a rundown commercial building in the CBD, next door to my Mum & Dad’s business and poured our heart and soul into renovating and transforming it into a warm and inviting destination for Hunter Valley ladies to meet, chat and pick up some essential items.Prior to our launch I so vividly recall Max, my well-meaning and at times direct Dad counselling me on the best move. Standing on the freshly sealed parquetry floor, under the brass chandelier he made the grand observation we should not be opening the shop, rather renting it out and enjoying the capital growth over the next 30 years.

I was dumbfounded. What would he know? Singleton needs a destination for the local girls to find their latest wardrobe additions. I smiled, thanked him for his input and duly ignored his sage advice with all the confidence of youth and someone who is in control of their destiny.I often think back to this conversation and reflect on how different our lives may have been had we followed Max’s advice. We no doubt would have built a solid property portfolio, however we would not be the people we are today with an incredibly rich and colourful tapestry of experience. The friends we made who led us to new destinations, a segue into Henri’s Brasserie, our restaurant adventure for ten years and finally returning to my roots of real estate and Tony to construction and renovation. The experience has taught me that neither Max nor I were right or wrong.

It is the most beautiful part of the adventure that each of us are wired differently and find joy in life’s different destinations. With our twin girls through school and finding their way in the world, an attempt at slowing down was made by me late last year. A brief attempt at idle time flicked a switch, opening an idea to share my experiences and help others along the way. The way we approach our everyday tasks can always be improved and reinvented. Current world events have proven this. Tony and I knew there was something worth exploring in our initial concept when we shared it with our girls and they became excited. This led to some very animated planning conversations. Next Move Property for me, is an opportunity to work each day with people to achieve their property objectives, while nurturing our next generation. There is much negativity around their approach to life, however if we stop and take the time too and view the world through their lens, we can harness their incredible energy and help to develop their extraordinary ideas.

It keeps us inspired and in return our experience can be shared and valued. The Next Move Property approach to Real Estate as you know it, is a little different. We want to remain small, personal and service driven. We have engaged a young team to assist with marketing and copywriting. We love our community and all it has given us over the years and are excited to be able to give back through sharing experience and strategies with our team and clients.

We are not transactional, we are here to walk beside you on the road to your destination, no matter how long that takes or how many questions you may have along the way.Shelby is our poster girl for first home buyers. Her knowledge, patience and understanding are willingly shared with those who are keen to take the plunge into home ownership. Together we work to build stress free and positive outcomes for all our clients. If you value building a trusted relationship rather than the quick transaction, then I think we will be a great fit for your ‘next move’. Drop by our office for a coffee and a chat on our sunny balcony or call us any time. We are always on the other end of the phone for you.

It’s your move…Sheree xo
