They say the quickest way to learn is, 'Don't think, just do!'
And this is something I've discovered is quite true reflecting on my recent adventure to Melbourne, where I was given the opportunity to spend a few days working in the Shelter Real Estate Office, located in Glen Iris, Victoria. Zali Reynolds, Principle of Shelter Real Estate, and a very successful woman in the Real Estate World, welcomed me with open arms and introduced me to one of her young agents, Britney Flack. After meeting and working with these two agents, to say I have a widened perspective of what hard work and passion for what you do looks like, would be an understatement.
There were clear objectives set out as I made my way down to Victoria. Simply, 'Be a sponge.' And I sure did soak up as much as possible. From attending appointments and inspections with Brit, hitting the phones to gain stronger dialogue, and understanding how a larger office of agents can function competitively, yet smoothly, it was a valuable and eye-opening few days. A key implementation in our office since I have returned has been Friday morning staff breakfast! The important things first of course!
Melbourne Real Estate is certainly a different market to that of Singleton. However, what can be found consistent, is the passionate and highly driven nature of Agents, that leads to a superior type of service, and forms meaningful relationships. Both Next Move Property and Shelter Real Estate take pride in pursuing a boutique-style agency, where a unique and personal sense of assistance is provided, moving away from the traditional ways of Real Estate and the 'numbers game.'
While there will always be something new to learn in this industry, a grounding focus point at Shelter is, 'Be a good human.' Hearing this phrase on numerous occasions while I was in the office for just a short period, affirmed ideas of fairly earned success, and that acting on values such as these, will always work in your favor. It also became clear as to why Sheree and Zali relate to one another, and why they would also like to pass on their ideas to young Agents in the making such as Brit and Myself.
As a young person starting out with little-to-no experience in the Real Estate world, it is essential that I take on every opportunity to learn and grow where possible, even if that means being thrown in the deep end. Fortunately, Sheree and the Next Move Property Team also understand this, leading to a spontaneous opportunity and a unique type of training to be offered, which has undoubtedly enhanced my skills both personally and professionally. I would have been silly to decline the offer!
