Now that you have decided to downsize, you will need to consider the lifestyle that reflects your current situation. This may revolve around any passions or hobbies you have or whether you plan for a life that is close to the shops, near a beach or perfect walking tracks. Do you long for a home that will allow you to lock up and venture on weekend getaways or for extended months of holidays? When you are in the process of finding the property for you, think about if this move will add to or hamper your desired lifestyle.
Once your plan is made, now it’s time to research. Consider what towns or suburbs that will suit your needs and wants. Do they offer activities that may interest you or do they meet your budget requirements. Commonly those wanting to downsize are more driven by a need to find a property that is more manageable or close to family, friends, amenities, or communities. Amenities like public transport, health facilities, shops and cafes and restaurants should all be considered before the move.

When people decide to downsize from their current family homes, an apartment, townhouse, or unit are often popular choices as they are low maintenance and depending on the location and type of building can offer great amenities, pools and even a concierge service, groundskeeping and security. Whichever type of home you decide to purchase, always consider the space and storage you will still need to fit your furniture and belongings, or will you still be needing an extra room for kids or family to stay, or do you want a space for entertaining?

The final decision to downsize can be an emotional one. Choosing an agent who is compassionate and supportive can make all the difference in your decision-making process. Your agent can not only offer advice on your move but they can also explain each step of the selling and moving process and any costs that may be associated with this.
